Our Lakes

A Lake for Every Condition
Cheemo Lodge sits at the center of three distinct lakes—Tazin Lake, Tsalwor Lake, and Thluicho Lake—each offering its own advantages and fishing style. Tazin Lake is widely recognized for its exceptional lake trout fishing and long-standing reputation in northern Canada. Tsalwor Lake provides exclusive access for our guests, delivering consistent lake trout and northern pike fishing in a more intimate, protected setting. Thluicho Lake offers the ultimate in solitude, with minimal pressure and only one boat on the water at a time.
This diversity ensures there is always somewhere productive to fish, regardless of weather or conditions. With quality water in every direction, guests can access outstanding fishing without long, exhausting boat rides—more time fishing, less time traveling.
The Geography
The Tazin Lake region sits in a truly unique part of northern Canada, where the landscapes of Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories blend seamlessly. Towering rock faces rise above clear northern waters, while boreal forest gives way to open stone, sand, and sky. Wildlife is abundant, and the sense of space is immediate and unmistakable.
Flying in from Fort McMurray offers a striking transition. Forest gradually gives way to expansive sand dunes and the vast waters of Lake Athabasca before the terrain tightens into rugged cliffs, deep bays, and clear lakes. This changing geography is more than scenic—it shapes how the lakes fish, how the water moves, and how the ecosystem thrives.
Tazin Lake
Tazin Lake has earned a world-renowned reputation for lake trout fishing, with the potential to produce the next world record. Its size, structure, and forage base create ideal conditions for lake trout to grow large and feed aggressively. Northern pike are also a major presence, offering opportunities for anglers looking to mix size with variety.
The lake’s unique flow characteristics—shaped in part by a historic dam and a reversed water flow—add another layer of complexity to how fish position and move throughout the season. With expansive shorelines, countless bays, and deep-water structure, Tazin Lake offers the kind of variety that keeps even seasoned anglers engaged day after day.
Tsalwor Lake
Tsalwor Lake is exclusive to Cheemo Lodge guests and offers a focused, highly efficient fishing experience. Located just a three-minute quad ride or a five-minute walk from the lodge, boats are docked, fueled, and ready to go—allowing anglers to spend more time fishing and less time preparing.
As part of the same water system as Tazin Lake, Tsalwor shares the characteristics that make the region such a strong fishery. Lake trout and northern pike are consistently active, with productive structure and travel routes spread throughout the lake. Its natural layout creates reliable fishing opportunities close to key access points, making Tsalwor a deliberate choice for anglers who value quality water, convenience, and consistency.
Thluicho Lake
Thluicho Lake is the definition of low-pressure fishing. Exclusive to Cheemo Lodge and limited to a single boat at a time, it offers a rare opportunity to fish an entire lake without competition. Northern pike fishing here is exceptional, with aggressive fish and consistent action, while lake trout are often overlooked—but should not be underestimated.
Access is simple and efficient. A short boat ride followed by a brief walk brings you to a boat that’s already set up and ready to explore. With the lake to yourself, the experience is unhurried, immersive, and focused entirely on fishing.
