The Cheemo Experience

The Cheemo Experience is the result of intention — not coincidence. From the lakes we fish, to the people we hire, to the pace of each day, every detail has been shaped to create something lasting.

Yes, the fishing is exceptional. But what guests remember most is how the trip feels: unhurried mornings, long northern evenings, genuine hospitality, and the sense that nothing here is rushed or overlooked.

Built on Patience, Not Convenience

Cheemo Lodge wasn’t purchased quickly. Years were spent working in the industry, learning what truly matters to guests, and searching for a place that could deliver a complete experience — not just great fishing.

When this lodge was found, everything aligned. The water. The setting. The heritage. The ability to offer remoteness without hardship, and adventure without chaos. Cheemo exists because the right place was worth waiting for.

Fishing That Lives Up to the Setting

World-class fishing isn’t accidental. It’s built on healthy water, thoughtful pressure, and experienced guides who understand both fish and people.

At Cheemo, trophy lake trout and trophy northern pike aren’t side notes — they’re the standard. Our guides are selected for their knowledge, professionalism, and ability to read a day, a guest, and a fishery. Whether guided or unguided, the focus is always the same: quality fishing, done right.

Easy to Reach. Hard to Leave

Despite its remote northern location, Cheemo is surprisingly accessible. Fort McMurray offers multiple commercial flights daily, allowing most guests to arrive with one connection or less.

From there, the journey continues by scenic floatplane, passing over Lake Athabasca, the Athabasca Sand Dunes, and into the Canadian Shield. The noise fades quickly. The pace slows. By the time you land, you’ve already begun to disconnect.

True North Remoteness

Cheemo offers something increasingly rare: quiet. No road noise. No crowds. No rush.

Days are shaped by weather, light, and appetite — not schedules. Whether you’re fishing under endless daylight, listening to loons from the dock, or sitting quietly with a coffee in the morning, the north has room to breathe here — and so do you.

A Legacy Since the 60’s

Cheemo Lodge has been part of this landscape since the late 1960s. Over the decades, it has hosted anglers, adventurers, and families who all came north for the same reason — to experience something real.

That heritage matters. It’s respected, maintained, and carried forward with care. While comforts have evolved, the character of the lodge remains grounded in its roots.

A Day That Feels Complete

Mornings begin with hot breakfast and fresh coffee. Days unfold on the water — guided or unguided — with shore lunches, packed lunches, wildlife sightings, and room to explore. Evenings bring warm meals, cold drinks, stories, and northern skies where the sun barely sets.

Some guests fish until midnight. Others settle into the lodge early. Both are exactly as they should be.

What Guides Every Decision

The Cheemo Experience is grounded in simple principles: helping guests escape routine, delivering exceptional angling, encouraging reconnection with nature, respecting the land and water, and offering genuine hospitality.

These values aren’t slogans — they shape how the lodge is run, how guests are welcomed, and how every detail is handled.

Cheemo Isn’t About Doing More

It’s about doing things properly — and letting the experience speak for itself.
