With multiple daily arrivals into Fort McMurray, same-day travel to the lodge is achievable for most guests.

The journey is well paced, predictable, and designed to get you north efficiently. Once you arrive in Fort McMurray, the rest of the experience unfolds naturally—no rushing, no unnecessary layovers, just a smooth transition from city to wilderness.

Scenic Float Plane Ride In

Every trip to Cheemo Lodge includes a scenic floatplane flight to and from the lodge. This isn’t just transportation—it’s part of the experience. After departing Fort McMurray, the landscape opens into the Athabasca sand dunes and the vast expanse of Lake Athabasca before transitioning into the rugged terrain of the Canadian Shield.

Getting to Fort Mac

Fort McMurray is the primary gateway to Cheemo Lodge and is easily reached from Canada’s major hubs. Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto all offer frequent connections, making travel planning simple and flexible.

For those who prefer to drive, Fort McMurray is accessible by paved highway. Whether flying or driving, reaching Fort McMurray is straightforward and well supported.

Getting to McMurray Aviation

From Fort McMurray, guests fly into the lodge aboard amphibious aircraft operated by McMurray Aviation. These planes depart from the opposite side of the Fort McMurray airport.

If arriving by commercial flight, a short five-minute taxi ride will take you from the terminal to McMurray Aviation’s facility. From there, you’ll load up, take off, and trade pavement for water as the north opens up beneath you.
