A Proper Northern Fishing Lodge

The main lodge at Cheemo is built in classic log style and designed to feel like a proper northern fishing lodge should. Inside, an oversized bar and spacious rec room offer a natural gathering place after a full day on the water. Wrapped in large windows, the space fills with natural light and overlooks the calm waters of Riach Bay—an easy setting for swapping stories and debating who really caught the biggest fish.

The lodge also features a dedicated dining area, ideal for sitting down together to enjoy elevated, home-cooked meals. It’s comfortable, unpretentious, and exactly where the day tends to end—no rush, no noise, just good food and better company.

Architecture

The original main lodge was handcrafted as a traditional log structure, complete with vaulted ceilings and the kind of presence that’s becoming increasingly rare. It has been meticulously maintained and carefully preserved, allowing it to stand much as it always has. The adjoining bar and rec room were built using stick-frame construction to support expansive windows and open sightlines, blending seamlessly with the original lodge.

The result is a space that feels like stepping back in time—without giving up the comfort, warmth, and functionality today’s guests expect.

Dining Room

The dining room is where mornings start and days are rounded out. Warm wood stoves take the edge off cool northern air, while breakfast and dinner are shared around the table, often stretching longer than planned. Lunch is always there for those who come in mid-day, whether to warm up, refuel, or swap a quick fishing update.

The smell of hot coffee in the morning and fresh baking throughout the day is constant. So are the laughs, the stories, and the camaraderie that naturally builds when good meals and good fishing come together.

Barry's Den

Barry’s Den is named in honour of Zac’s grandfather, Barry—a Saskatchewan trapper and innovator who spent much of his life in the north. His resourcefulness, curiosity, and respect for the land still influence how Cheemo Lodge operates today.

This is where stories are traded, games are played, and banter flows easily, all while looking out over the lake. It’s a space that simply invites you to settle in and stay awhile.
